Internship Opportunities for 2020

Internship and COVID-19

EEI appreciate that the world is experiencing unprecedented health and economic challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We want to continue to play a role supporting the bright engineering minds of the future while ensuring the safety of our staff and community.

EEI would like to advise students that we are still considering internship applications during these difficult times. EEI’s staff are currently working from home to play our role in reducing the transmission of COVID-19. Successful internship applicants may be engaged for remote interview and desktop work experience from home while our office is closed. The safety of EEI’s staff, interns, and clients is our number one priority.

EEI will welcome successful interns to our West Perth office for further practical experience once the relevant government authorities have recommended normal business practice resumes.

The Engineering Internship Program

In the interests of developing future engineers, EEI offer practical work experience to bright students. We facilitate the opportunity to learn more about being an engineer and complete your required vacation work hours by working with a capable multi-disciplinary team on a diverse range of projects.

The internship program is structured, with an aim to develop your skills to apply theoretical knowledge in practical situations, and to start your journey to become a good professional engineer.  Activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Participation in the research and development of innovative technologies
  • Introduction to the preparation of project proposals and tenders
  • Learning from senior members in engineering design and technical report writing
  • Opportunities for both site, laboratory and computer modelling experience, attending client meetings and developing your presentation skills (once the risk of COVID-19 has been reduced as advised by the state and federal government)

What We’re Looking For

  • Enthusiastic penultimate or final year students of a civil/chemical/environmental/mechanical engineering, chemistry, physics, or environmental science background
  • Motivation for excellence, working both individually and in a team, and a passion for creative thinking to solve engineering and science problems
  • A background knowledge of water chemistry, water and wastewater engineering, hydraulic engineering, soil sciences, software engineering or mechanical design (including drawing) would also be desirable but is not essential

We have vacancies for the voluntary engineering internship program during the university semester and winter break. As this is a voluntary program, we are flexible with contact hours with an objective to achieve the best outcome for both parties.
